This lens boasts an impressive build quality for its price point. While the autofocus system may not be lightning-fast, the deal-breaker is the unbelievable f1.8 aperture you're getting. The images, especially in clear light, come out incredibly crisp. The compact design is a plus, and the inclusion of a cool lens sun cap adds a nice touch. It's clear that this brand is on the right path, offering exciting products. I'm looking forward to seeing more from them!
I must say I was super skeptical about TTartisan lenses I have seen many reviews on social media from sponsored posts and felt like the price point for the lens could not warrant any really quality. BOY WAS I WRONG. I absolutely LOVE this lens the sharpness blew me away even at the widest aperture. The image was sharp from corner to corner with no vignetting issues or anything. I would even say this lens is sharper than my Tamron lens that costs $700!!! The autofocus is not the fastest but it is quick. It doesn't have a lot of lens breathing either when autofocusing. It is also fairly quiet so it's suitable for video work as well. The lens is also small and low profile. I really am blown away by this lens and I fully intend to use it regularly. You absolutely need to grab this lens while the prices are low because this is phenomenal!
Biggest compliment for this lens is that it is incredibly compact, light and well built. Very much exceeds it's price point and offers an awesome alternative for people who can't afford the first party, or more expensive third party variants. Also very intuitive use of the lens cap by functioning as a port to update the lens firmware.Auto focusing was excellent and shooting in lower light conditions at 1.8 aperture felt pretty good considering the price of the lens in comparison to my first party fuji lenses. Bokeh was pleasing to the eye, nothing crazy but definitely nothing to be disappointed with, would very much recommend using this lens for some street photography or when you're out on a hike, very versatile and quick. The only gripe I have at all is that the lens color capture felt off. Colors were not really as rich when comparing images to my other lenses, to quite a noticeable degree. I would say they were a little washed out, maybe if anything a little truer to how they would look straight out of your eye with no real pop. If you're looking to use the lens alongside others for a collection of scenes and images from the same day/location just be aware of that, you will have to do some post work to get it to the look of any other lenses you might've used.
I ordered this TTArtisan AF 35mm F1.8 Auto Focus Lens APS-C Compatible with Fuji X-Mount Cameras to use with my Fuji XPro1 camera.I have a few TTArtisan lenses that I've used on a Canon 5d and a Fuji GFX100s. However, those are all totally manual lenses. In fact, until fairly recently, all of TTArtisan's offerings were manual lenses. Now, though, they have expanded to fully automatic lenses. Even though I already own a Fuji XF 35mm f2, I couldn't resist this lens given the price.Build quality is excellent. The operation of the focus ring is very smooth. The lens looks nice on the camera, and the lens hood stands out from the typical round shape. Wide open, this lens does not match the sharpness of the Fuji 35mm f2. It is not as sharp in the center, and considerably less sharp at the corners. Things look much better by the time you've stopped down to f8, but the Fuji still holds the advantage. In terms of autofocus, the TTArtisan is indistinguishable from the Fuji. The lens snaps into focus with a minimum of hunting and in near complete silence. In manual focus mode, the smooth operation of the focus ring allows for very precise movements. While this lens is not as sharp as the Fuji XF and lacks an aperture ring, it sells for less than half the price of the Fuji and offers a great value. One thing that requires mentioning... the rear cap has some contacts built in which are connected to a USB port. There is no indication in the owner's manual as to what this port is for, but it's most likely designed to allow for firmware updates. I like that TTArtisans is forward looking and recognizes that firmware updates are an added value for a consumer, but I'm puzzled by their decision to have any such updates reliant on a lens cap. If you lose the cap, you've also lost the ability to take advantage of any firmware updates that might be offered.
