This is a bit of a hefty lens at 400+g but the sharpness you get is extremely impressive. F1.8 is a little soft with slight color fringing on highly contrasting lines but by F2.2, it's absolutely razer sharp with no color issues. AF is excellent and it's all around an absolute beast of a lens. This lens punches way WAY above its price class. The two negatives here are the weight and how easily the AF/MF switch can be knocked. Both of these are more of an annoyance than negative. One thing to note here is that this is a full frame lens. F1 8 on APS-C is actually F2.7. At F2.2 on a full frame, the DOF is still too shallow for a portrait from ~8ft away. You can't get the tip of the nose and the ears in focus until F2.8 on a full frame. I feel like this distinction between APS-C and full frame has been lost in the wave of APS-C cameras.

All the reviews were right! This is definitely a bargain. For a full frame camera 50mm with this level of AF and stabilization is a sweet deal. The lense doesn't fit as snugly on the body as a sigma would. But it's acceptable. Also the manual or auto focus button looks out of place. But would definitely recommend!

Build Quality:- It feels solid (lightweight metal)- The focus and aperture rings turn VERY smoothly, some may feel they are too tight (but I love it)- There is no weather sealing gasket around the lens mount (but at this price point it was not expected)- The one major flaw is the AF/MF switch, which is of poor quality and is NOT tightly assembled- Lens hood is nicely designed but has some slight up/down movement when secured to the lensPerformance:- Just as sharp if not sharper than all other Sony FF E Mount lenses in this price range- The aperture ring is de-clicked and cannot be altered otherwise- AF is snappy and has smooth transitions from foreground to background (and vice versa)- The AF motor is audible but not distracting (stepper motor)- Eye AF is great and video tracking is just as good as any other lens in this price bracket- There is a USB-C port on the lens mount which allows for firmware updates via a computerConclusion:If 7artisans can fix the AF/MF build quality issue, I would recommend this over the similarly priced Sony "Nifty Fifty" mainly because of its mostly metal build and how it balances nicely with an Alpha 7 FF or APS-C camera. I enjoyed the AF transitions being smoother than others in this category despite the audible noise from the motor. Overall, well done by 7artisans considering this is their first attempt at an Autofocusing lens for the E mount system.
